About RYSL
Rochester Youth Soccer League's recreational league emphasizes participation, skills development, teamwork and fun. Small-sided games are used to reduce the number of players on the field at one time and increase the player's chances of touching the ball. This promotes the development of younger players' soccer technique (individual and team skills) before teaching tactics.
It is our belief that soccer tactics can't be taught until basic skills are mastered. Also, standings are not kept, focusing attention on fun and the quality of play instead of wins and losses.
RYSL is dedicated to promoting the involvement of parents in children's sports. The parent coach is the most significant person to the young soccer player...they determine the quality of the first soccer experience for nearly every young player. For RYSL, the volunteer coach normally commits for both the Fall and Spring seasons.
Each coach receives an RYSL Coach's handbook that contains information about soccer skills training and game tactics which can be used during training sessions. Also, both player and coach's clinics to help develop coaching skills are held seasonally. Interested parents and other adult volunteers should email or call the RYSL office for further information.
